hi - been a while...

so my new orange 1x15 cab is making a loud 'pop!' noise occasionally. i can reproduce it by muting the strings and tapping the low E at higher volumes. the speaker sounds great and healthy otherwise. it happens with both my svt-cl head and also my practice head (backline 600).

i run two 15's and it does not occur in the other speaker. i tried another bass as well to rule out my bass being the cause. And the noise is NOT the strings hitting the pickups.

i need to figure it out, shows are looming. perhaps a sign of a speaker on its way out?

any ideas appreciated...

man, i had this happen last time i was jamming w/ my rig at my band's place, put up a thread about it and got the same response. i hear people talk about their cab farting and other things, but this is an actual pop slightly louder than the ambient volume, yes? and, near as i remember, only occurred w/ the e string. i was using my brand new neo410 and neo212 w/ a brand new head. i hope someone has an answer for you!:hmm:

Y'know it doesn't matter how many times this gets talked about in threads people just don't listen. The pop is the voice coil of your speaker hitting the back plate of the magnet assembly. Too much power for the speaker to handle. It's like the old joke - Doctor, every time I poke myself in the eye it hurts (hitting E string). Doctor's response: "Well don't do that!". You are over exerting your speaker. Continue doing so and you will destroy it.

If this post seems a little harsh, sorry! I'm very tired and more than a little depressed!

hey johnnydenver, don't pay any attention to paul right now... he is very tired, more than a little depressed, and not willing to help. With my new rig, i put in a new battery (i don't actually think that was the problem), built myself some new short neutrik speakon speaker cables (may have been the problem), replaced my instrument cable (may have been the problem), and adjusted my boost, master, and eq levels (probably the problem). Also, i have a 410/212 stack that i'm changing to a 410/410 stack because it just didn't seem right... not necessarily a phasing issue, but something just wasn't right. I think i just need more powwaaa... and i believe this will help! Man, best of luck and keep us posted! :bassist:

I am ALWAYS willing to help and this question has been asked and answered before.

What is the nominal power rating of the Orange cabinet. Are you boosting your lows. Does this happen when using both of your cabinets. What IS the second cabinet and what is the nominal power rating. Oh and until you isolate exactly what your problem is, adding more power will only aggravate the situation.
