Help wiring two DiMarzio P bass pick-ups

Hello out there,
I'm putting together a 2 P-bass pick-up bass V V & push pull
tone (series for bridge p-up ) & I need a little help.

I first wired the front pick-up following factory instructions
then I followed factory specs for series.
I spoke w/ a tech & he said to wire it like a jazz bass.

Any suggestions accepted at this point.

After a full day of wiring I put it down. After soundcheck today I'll re- attempt to fix .
As of last night, the front pick-up sounds fine but the bridge is week & thin ( even w/ just that pick-up at full ) the series function is working but the tone is reversed. I'm puzzled?

Can you describe your series/parallel push/pull configuration more explicitly? It's possible to wire a single P pickup with a series/parallel switch, but since the two halves are intended to be wired in series, putting them in parallel just results in an anemic sound, with low volume and very little low-frequency presence. So I don't recommend doing series/parallel for a single P pickup.

So, treating each P pickup as a unit, with one hot wire and one ground wire, you can use [Invalid or Expired Link Removed] from Seymour Duncan's website. If you really want the push/pull on the tone pot, instead of the volume pot, then you can certainly do that, but I find it more intuitive to have the push/pull on one of the volume pots.

I actually just did this, mostly out of boredom. Specifically, two series/parallel switches for my PJ (the J is a DiMarzio Ultra Jazz humbucker). I wouldn't say "anemic", but you do lose quite a bit in volume and punch. It might be useful for recording, but I think it is just about useless when trying to cut through a live mix. I haven't had the time to record some samples, but when I do I will be starting a thread to share my experience.

ctmullins, the pick up in question is located at the bridge & is the
DiMarzio DP127 split P. I was hoping for a noticeable difference
which is why I was going for the series option. The tech sold me the push pull tone knob, not sure why he didn't recommend a vol
push pull. I'll check the diagram you linked & thanks for your help.

hi! i was about do that mod (series parallel for each P pickup) in a bass... do you think it's a good idea or it's a waste of time (and a push pull!)??

Sounds as the pickups are out of phase; reverse the wires on the weak pickup and see what ya get.

This is an old thread btw...

This does sound like it could be a phase issue, but inverting the polarity of one pickup is not the right solution.

He said that the problem is still there with the bridge pickup soloed, so a phase issue between the two pickups would only be noticeable when they are both used together. The polarity of a pickup does not matter when used alone.

It sounds more to me like the two halves of the P pickup are out of phase from each other.
You could try inverting the phase of one coil of the bridge pickup.
