Help with DI along with on-stage power section.

I play in a worship setting. I've gone back and forth with straight DI(SansAmp) to the board and splitting with my SVT III (pre-Pro) w/ EA-110 (pre-wizzy). The DI alone set-up is fine when we're in an acoustic format. I get enough through the floor wedges though they're up front and I'm in the standard bass position/back and out of the way;). Last night I brought out my amp/speaker again now that we have a steady drummer and one guitarist is now using and mic-ing an amp on stage.

Here's my issue. I'm going from bass/pedalboard to the Sansamp XLR to the board. From the 1/4" output on the Sansamp to the power section (effects return) of the SVT. As the manual states. Almost everything works like it should. I get pre-amp control from the Sansamp, sound out of my speaker for the drummer and I, and the board is getting it's feed. The only issue I'm having is when I control my volume(stage/amp/speaker) with the Level on the Sansamp it affects the send to board signal. The manual, if I understand it correctly said this shouldn't happen. I should be able to control the level on stage and not change the feed. If any of this makes any sense I'd love some help. Thanks.

Which model?

My BDDI manual sez:

LEVEL adjusts the output level of both the 1/4 and XLR outputs.

You could set its level to be almost too loud for you & the drummer with the power amp's gain control wide open, then use only the power amp's gain control to make volume adjustments.

Thanks for the reply. I have the SA Bass Driver DI. I will check manual again. The way I'm set up (using the DI as my pre by going to the effects return, I have no control of any settings with my amp. Volumes/EQ etc. Maybe it's the instr/line switch. I'm set at instr.(both) Only because when I'm in "line" it seems to overdrive (way loud). Help is much appreciated craigp.

Yeah, the line/inst switch is just a gain setting, so what you said makes sense.

If there's no way to adjust the amp's gain downstream of the effects return, you could build a small attenuator box with a 25K pot and two 1/4" jacks to do just that. Or a tech could do it for you. Probably no more than $40 in parts, including the box and the extra instrument cable. It doesn't have to be fancy.
