Help with interfaces

Hi, I've been looking into buying an interface for my laptop..
I have a Dell E1705 with 1gb ram, 1.84ghz/988mhz with a duo core.. The problem is, I don't have a firewire port.

I'm looking into different interfaces with my $200 budget (I can afford to spend $300 if it's absolutely worth it though). From what I have read here, firewire is the way to go (as far as latency goes) and I was wondering if it was worth it to buy a firewire port to put in my laptop.

Right now I have 6 USB ports and 0 Firewire (I opted not to get one when I was customizing my laptop)..

When choosing a PCMCIA Firewire card for your laptop, be careful to get the right one. If you get one with an NEC Chipset, it will not work with MOTU Interfaces. That is most likely not going to be an issue with your needs as the MOTU interfaces are more expensive than the ones you are looking at, but something to be aware of. I also recommend external Firewire HardDrives, even if you end up with a USB interface. The Firewire just seems to handle the throughput better than USB2.0 does. Kinda depends on what you're gonna use it for. Fer instance, if you're recording one track at a time, then USB is gonna be fine.
