A local music store has a super clean 83 NS2 made in Chek. Jazz bass pickups, 4 string, original badass bridge.
I am not sure how they dated it as it has no serial # anywhere. Anyway, not being a Spector guy I thought I would check here first to see if the price is ok. They are asking $999.00 with a gig bag. Is this a reissue, and if so, what is the value of this bass.

Anyone have any info on this?

    Thank you.

  2. You might want to ask in the Spector Club thread too, they're pretty active and know their stuff.

A 83 without numbers would be a Kramer era made in Korea.
I picked up my 83 NS2A with original case and EMG upgrade for $500.
    That's about the going rate

This bass is most likely an NS-2JA-R a reissue of a 1983 Brooklyn bass. If it is, the price is a little high. These were limited edition with only 83 made in natural, black, & white. A picture would help. The price is a little high.

it's a Czech made reissue, not Korean (Korean spectors can be great as well but command a lower price). that's not a bad price, but I've seen the J-AR reissues go in the 800 range in the past. it's a very good quality bass.

I had no idea there were NS2 basses that go that low. I remember playing this KILLER Spector (thought it had duel soapbars) in a Sam Ash in NYC. I looked at the price tag, it said around $800 and it had NS2 in the title. I flipped over the headstock and it said Korea on it, and figured it was a Legend that was mis tagged.

The NS-2A was made between 1986 and 1991.

There were NS-2A models in the start of the run with no serial, but shortly after the serial was stamped into the plastic of the control cavity. These numbers are 4 digits and start with NS.

    So you don't have a 1983 NS-2A.

The NS-2A is Korean-Made. Before 1986 there were only USA-Brooklyn-Made Spectors. In 1993-1994 the first Czech Spectors were made.

The serial number for the bass in question in this thread is inside the control cavity on the back.

This is an NS-2JA-R - a reissue of the 1983 NS-2J. The first Bolt-On NS-Bass. Limited to 83 in three different colors.

----------Going price for these is the $800-$1000 range. I've seen them go for less. But never more.
I sold the one I owned for $900 over a year and a half ago. And that included a Spector hard-shell case. Otherwise I would have asked $800.
Mine was white like this one.

  11. so...umm...yeah :) I shoulda kept the NS2A I sold ya racer...

That's my NS2JAR. I traded it in with my rebop for the new amber Euro LX they had. I was treated very well there, and their tech guy is a great guy!
I had a fair amount in the bass, and its a great bass. I wish I could have afforded to keep it and still get the LX...
That being said, I would try to get the price down a bit, but he wrote up the deal for me as $1600.00 trade allowance. So I'm thinking hes thinking he has probably $850 into that, and $750 into the rebop. New msrp on it was $1999., I believe, so I'd guess they probably sold new for $1400 to $1500?

You'll find the serial number under the back control cover n that bass. And it is a great bass!

    Hope this helps!
    Steve
