Personally i wouldn't invest in a mic. Especially since they are pretty expensive!
Just put it on your technical rider. Also, i've heard some great results with just an sm57 and some DI. But if it will make you feel more certain and ease your mind, you should invest. To me it seems like money i could spend on something else, unless you are also a homerecording fanatic or will use the mic for other purposes.

Just thought I'd check back and say thank you again for all of the info. I picked up the rig last weekend and couldn't be happier! I ended up with the Ampeg v-4b and two SVT 112 AV's. Sounds killer and gets super loud!

Glad to hear you're enjoying it! I don't have the cabs but I have the V4B and it's my workhorse amp since getting it. Sounds great and much lighter than the originals. Built pretty tough, too. Survived a 3 ft drop onto a concrete floor and only broke one preamp tube.

Nice man! Enjoy it, i don't think there will come a moment where you'll regret it. I can't imagine going back to a SS amp
