Helpful sites for band recording help...

Does anyone know of any good sites/links for general recording tips/gear for inexperienced bands. Sorry questions like this are probably asked a lot but i havent found any overly helpful sites yet.

What i'm especially after is how we can record at least 8 tracks at once and mix them down seperately after on the computer. I've heard of a mixer that allows you to do something like this and would like to know more...also i'd like info on all this firewire stuff...i dont quite understand it...

really cool, little snobbery, overall a great community of recordists, engineers, and musicians. i go to gearslutz a lot too. loads of great information there. but sometimes they can be a little too snobby unless you are using vintage analog gear.
