I think, as a piece of music history, this is very cool and interesting!

BTW, most bass tracks, when isolated, sound pretty un-inspiring.

No one ever complained about the bass on HELTER SKELTER until this.

I think it is cooL!

Absolutely. Plus he would have auto-tuned Paul's vocals to death because Paul was out of tune by 0.1 cent!!!

The rough spots are always more noticeable when isolated. But I agree that the tone and attack are exactly what the song calls for.

There are a LOT of tempo issues. It almost sounds like he is having trouble because of super high action. More likely it's because he's not really a bass player (It's not as easy as it looks, right?). Of course, this song was probably cut in one take. So, I'll cut him slack for that.

Exactly. This farty, sloppy, nasty bass track is exactly why the finished product ended up being 100% pure awesome!!

On a side note, it always amazed me as to how the Beatles let songs evolve. Have you heard the early take of Helter Skelter on the Anthology CD? I never heard a more boring song in my life. Can't help but wonder who said c'mon, lets kick it up a few notches.

You can't judge any single part of a song, instead, judge it by the sum of its parts.

Now, I need to find a copy of the whole song to listen again with new ears.
