Jimi learned to play the guitar strung both ways. I wouldn't say he was equally adept with either way (low E or high E on top) but he could definitely hold his own regardless of how the instrument was strung. So, he could really play any guitar or bass that he picked up no matter how it was strung.

He played bass on a handful of Electric Lady Land tracks. Even the cool bass solo in "1983( a merman I should be )

Solo at 3:20 till about the 4:38 mark.

That's what I like about Jimi: A lefty who knows better than to play lefty instruments (not sure he really had a choice, but man, why do those people cut themselves off from the vast majority of gear out there?)

Yup Jimi could play some bass. I know who was credited but I always wondered who really played bass on the released version of Highway Chile because it just sounded just a little bit funkier.
