Double Bass Henriksen "The Bud"

So, I picked one of these up about a month ago for use with my guitar/vocal gigs, but have put a fair amount of time on it with bass. I have the bass dialed nearly all the way back for most stages, and have found it better up on a chair. which makes no sense, but my bass puts out a lot of low end acoustically. Pushed a 19 piece jazz orchestra with no trouble last week, mind you this is not a big band, but still quite incredible. This little cube will do for 70% of my gigs; I only need the larger rig (which for me is a 1x10) for rockabilly gigs. This little amp is silly, and I love it.

That's the reality of trying to produce bass frequencies through a small speaker in a little box with 100 Watts.

Either you have coupling with the floor, or you're inaudible. Physics, man.

So just reporting in here again. I've basically used the Bud for almost every single gig in the last year from trios to big band and it has been great. The amount of bass that comes out of this thing is stupid considering its size. I always have the bass rolled way off.

On occasions my wife also sings through the second channel. I've also had guitar through the second channel (at the same time as the bass) and it's great although each time the guitarist opted to use the bright switch on the second channel to boost the high end.

I still have my MAS-16 and did try it a few times but the Bud is still the better-sounding and more convenient box with less setup and teardown. It does have a port on the bottom and needs to be coupled with the floor which is not optimal for the vocalist but for bass it's fine.

Henriksen just announced the Blu which is a one-channel version of the Bud weighing in at 12 lbs. They saved 5 lbs by switching to a class D amp and apparently the sound is the same.

I have used my Bud 6 (the older one) for guitar, uke, banjo, upright bass, electric bass, and as a PA - yes a PA. As long as it is a smaller venue, it's amazing. I will never sell it. Great for rehearsals, has line in for parties, DI, speaker output, etc. Just an amazing tool. AND - it sounds great for everything I have used it for. And I do not work for them! For anything but bass (el or upright), the volume is amazing. I used it with a big band for rehearsal on upright and it cut it, but was at it's limit possibly - could try with a small cab like a PJ 2 x 5 and see what happens, but by then, I will just use my regular bass amp.
