i posted this on another bass forum, but i decided to post it here because i thought i can get more replies.

Hey guys, i am new to the forums. i have been playing drums for about 4 years but i wanted to start playing bass. i was wondering what are some good bass's that are good for beginners that arent too expensive. i would like to spend as little as possible. and an amp isn't nesscisary at first but it would be good to get with the bass.

Squier is making some good instruments these days. The Vintage Modified Precision is fairly good as well. Another good option would be to check your local Craigslist fairly regularly. Around here I see MIM Fenders or Squiers sold along with practice amps for decent prices fairly regularly. A lot of people on here like SX basses, but I can't personally comment there.

Yamaha doesn't make a a bad bass either, but the Squiers are particularly good value for money at the moment. Play a few, though.

The ''cheaper'' sets of basses I tried that I like are the Squier Vintage Modified series basses, Epiphone Thunderbird, Yamaha RBX's, OLP's (though they are discontinued) and (yes even) the Dean Playmate. I might suggest you get a bass that is easy to modify.
