Hi C string gauge

Hey all,

I tried to search this but this forum ihgnores 3 charcter words so here I am asking. I use 27 47 67 87 107 127 gauge for my bass right now and want to try 35 48 63 84 106 128. Will the difference in gauge for the high c make it unplayable? I play a half step down mainly metal stuff and the 27 I always push off the board because its so light. ANy suggestions? or do I just have realy bad technique?

Thanks

Andrew

If you're looking at a pre-packaged 6-string set, you can pretty much guarantee it's not only playable, but somebody, somewhere has decided it's ideal for some purpose.

If you're looking at buying single strings and making your own custom-guage set, why? Are you not happy with what's out there? I wouldn't think a .035 string would be unplayable as a C string, though it's at the thick end of the range. I've seen C strings as small as .018 (half the thickness), and these will surely sound VERY different.

I usually use a .030 C string.

I wasn't planning on buying singles, nor did I state that I was anywhere in my post at all. I even wrote out the gauges in the set I plan to use. But anyways, anyone else have any high C comments? or the overall gauge change between the set I use and the set I want to change to?

Thanks Andrew

Any other 6 string or 5 string high c guys got any suggestions? I was reading an artcile called talking shop with Anthony Jackson, and the gauges he uses on his 6 seem very light but he is using a 36' scale bass. What would the gauges he uses be equivalent to the bigger gauges he would have to use on a 34 inch scale bass? His set I think was offered by Fodera is 28 44 62 85 106 125

Thanks,

Andrew

What gauges are mentioned in that article?
In the one I read a good while ago, none where mentioned.
