Hi from a bass chick

Hi guys! I'm new!

I've been playing bass since August (of this year)...but I've been playing cello for 16 years. So it's not that different to me. The bass is now my favorite instrument to play. It's so much fun. I've been playing for a hip hop-style band that has a total of 7 people in it...trumpet, guitar, vocals, keyboards, congas/bongos, drums, and bass. I'm on the lookout for the next bass and my very own awesome rig.

Cello is one of my favorite instruments to play and listen to. I'm a public school orchestra director and I spend a lot of time around violins, violas, cellos, and basses.

I never was much into hip hop prior to this. I was always kind of an alternative rock kind of girl. I did like some of our local hip hop bands; The Groove Movement, The Blend, and the band I'm playing in now, Rhyme Mind Theory. I always liked bass-driven music, even before I started playing. Since I've been in my band, the vocalist has been giving me CD after CD to listen to for some influence. Lately, it's been The Roots, Del, and Jurrasic 5. I'm grooving to all of it.

My cello experience really helped my bass playing. Same thing goes for the orchestra experience...I'm used to playing with people and developed a pretty good sense of time. Right now, it's just those stupid frets that get in the way! When I have a disposable income, I'm getting an unlined fretless to add to the collection. Playing fretless makes me smile.
