Not sure if this forum gets a lot of visitors from outside the US, but I really hope so since the love for bass is universal...
Parents bought me a cheap bass back in '07 when I was 14 and been playing ever since. Wanted to switch to bass from electric guitar because I thought that 'not having to play chords would be easier' and 'I would have 2 less strings to worry about'... boy was I wrong
Turned to bass because of friends showing me videos of Japanese rock bands, who really emphasize the bass in their song construction.. it takes a more 'lead' role while the guitars are added on top more as a texture.. loved the aggressive pick sound of it. Of course I learned to master every technique as I've been playing for (almost) 5 years now. Love to play fingerstyle funk (Parliament, Cameo), or deep treble-less reggae... played in a couple of bands bands, ranging from metal to blues but currently in a more alternative rock vibe and searching for people... love to perform, even when it's just 2 people - I give my all!
Hope to have fun discussions about gear, sound and other bassists here interested in what drove all you people to the bass!
