Hi from Northern Ireland. My name is Laurence Cochrane I own a brace of basses Yet only a learner A Yamaha BB424 P/J bass, also a project self modified Squier Affinity (Alder body) P bass modded by myself. Full shielding kit. modified bridge earth, Fender CTS pots Orange tone cap Seymour Duncan 1/4 pounders and flatwounds fitted. I have a J bass neck coming and a high mass black chrome bridge coming. Why ? For the hell of it. The Yamaha is a bit less modified flatwounds fitted, a brass top nut and a better string tree fitted as the original pathetic little original pulled out when I fitted the flatwounds. As for modyfing the Squier That is what I do modify things. I just cannot leave stuff as is, cars motor, bikes equipment in general. The username Gt6s comes from my 26 year thing with Triumph Gt6 sports cars I use the Gt6s moniker on all forums I am a member of.

Not Joking Is there something wrong with that set up ? I put the flatwounds on the ex Squier ( Can no longer be really called s Squier) because I liked them on the Yamaha as it the Yam was mountains too bright on roundwounds. The Squier when I got the Yamaha was the Yamahas bitch the Squier unmodified at that point. No longer the Yamahas bitch. The Yamaha made me realise how bad the Squier was hence the mods. If I have done or am doing something wrong please do not hesitate to tell me. Just learning this stuff. I have a real bad need to modify stuff. Bordering on phycosis.

Yeah it sounds good. As i said no longer the Yamahas bitch. I have decided to do some cosmetic mods too. I now have black tuners coming to match the new bridge. Aslo a set of through body stringing ferrules ordered which I may or may not do depends how this new bridge works out The major cosmetic will be to fill a couple of minor dings which are currently and deliberately covered by a spider web decal. Also flatten out the body and refinish in black metallic clear over base and matt black the pickguard. Like black ,as much as I have a need to modify stuff. Yeah I need psychiatric help. And have paperwork which proves it. Cheers

Bridge arrived today It looks like I can do the through body stringing SCAREY !!! Also the new neck arrived it is a little bit thicker about 3/16 at the base than the Squier one. HOWEVER looking at the Yamaha the base of the Yamaha fretboard sits raised about 3/16 above the main body I was thinking of thinning the new neck or the body to bring the fretboard down or just do this the same way as this is done on the Yamaha. Might look a little odd but good enough for Yamaha. really only a matter of setting up the bridge to suit this and raise the pickups It certainly would be stronger stiffer this way. Also the Squier tuners will not fit but looking like the new black ones will. Have to wait till those arrive.

Tuners arrived and fitted to new neck. Look good. Strings buzzed on first fret on A and E strings even with bridge set high. This evening I brought home my allen key set and adjusted the truss rod. Bridge screwed back down again. SORTED !
