Zach, first of all, what would the woofer section impedance be?

8 ohms total for the woofer section. The 15NW100's I have are 16 ohm drivers.

I'd be inclined to use the Alpha 6A to give you another 3dB of voltage sensitivity which will make the cab just that bit more midrangey/bright and probably mean you won't need to go 3-way.

Me too, Alex. But as always, the lock-in seems to be the availability of boiler-plate passive crossovers : \

My original thought was to do what I know best and just go active X-over. But that blows my budget CLEAR out of the water. DCX-2496's aren't as cheap as I'd like them to be right now.

Enough so that slapper/poppers currently testing some prototype cabs have found 7kHz inadequate for their tastes. For them 3 way is a necessity, as no 6.5 has adequate dispersion that high.

+1 The Faital is a very good sounding driver capable of a good sounding slap tone, but the high end is pretty focused and really drops off axis.

Wow, I would've never thought that to be the case. Thanks for sharing that info Bill! But kind of a let down at the same time.

It all comes down to preference. Personally, I like the slap sound coming off a cabinet with 7K, but it's more of a 80's type funk sound. If you are looking for that bright, Marcus Miller, type "sizzle" you are going to need more than just a mid driver. For my ears, I find that horn type "sizzle" a bit harsh sounding and it quickly causes my ears to fatigue, but that is just my preference.

I think that I'll have to experiment around with a few things. I was really hoping to keep my cabinet a 2 way setup with no horn. But there aren't any 6.5" drivers out there with the sensitivity I need that can reach 7KHz cleanly with enough output, much less 10KHz.
