High Pass Filter question

I'm interested in the idea of using a HPF. I have a ProSonus 3 band Parameter EQ. If I roll off the low end (say 40hz or so) and do the same with the high end, do I have the same effect as a HPF/LPF?

What would be the advantages of find a Broughton HPF/LPF or one of the 'Always On' pedals? (they seem to be out of stock at the moment).

A HPF has a very sharp attenuation slope beginning at the rolloff frequency point. A parametric doesn’t really work that way. It’s slope is less severe and it has a center frequency rather than a cutoff frequency control. It’s designed to boost or cut your signal at a selectable center frequency. It also allows you to dial in the range of frequencies affected on either side of the center frequency. It’s not intended to block all frequencies above or below a cutoff frequency. That’s what LPFs and HPFs are for.

The EQ curve on a High or Low Pass Filter is much steeper than most Parametrics can get.

You can kinda fake it with the parametric, but the cut off frequency will usually be a more gradual slope down.

Pass Filters are a much sharper hard cut at the selected frequency.
