High Pitched Ringing Sound

Don't know how common this is, but I'd like to know.

At my school, we're doing a musical. So they tried to plug my amp directly into the system, but for some reason there was a high pitched ringing sound being heard. It wasn't loud at all, but it was audible. It was coming from my amp, so I turned down the high level on the "contour" part and it went away. Unfortunately I lost a lot of high end, so I'm wondering what else might cause this.

Here is my amp. Not high quality, I know, I want to get a new one, but for now this is what I have.

Any suggestions as to what it might be? If I didn't explain it properly, let me know what I missed.

Hi rarisgod.

I don't know what's causing the high-pitched ringing sound which you have described, although it likely has something to do with the modest circuitry in the Rogue.

As a zero-cost approach to compensating for the loss of highs, have you tried tilting your amp back slightly (wedging a couple of text books under its front edge should do this) so that you can better hear the edge of your sound to compensate for having to turn down the high level contour control in order to attenuate the high-pitched noise your amp is making through the PA?

Use a direct box and split the signal before it goes to your amp. In other words, send a direct signal from your bass to the PA and then to your amp.... not through your amp then to the PA.

I just remembered, right now it's running through an XLR (mic cord I think) output, so that would change if I did it this way, right?
