High String Tension

I need bass strings with a higer string tension. I have a geddy lee and have had good luck in the past with strings but not the ones not. Right now i have rotosound 55's and when I drop tune to D they start loosing tension and buzz or twang kind of. I need to know what strings are good for drop tning and have a really high tension. I heard maybe earnie ball, DR's or D addario.

OP, do you drop to D often?

I see the Rotos are pressure wound strings and that you're using a .105 E-string. The equivalent tension for drop tuning would be a .115 string. Since it sounds like you switch between standard and Drop D, you should look for a .110 to give a nice balance.

Unfortunately, I don't know where to find a pressure wound string in that gauge, so you might have to settle for some other type of string.

You can build a custom set Link Removed. They have a great selection of strings at a great price, and probably any brand will work you tension-wise. Here is more-or-less what your set should look like:

Standard:
.105 .080 .060 .040

Drop D:
.115 .080 .060 .040

Standard & Drop D (switch back and forth):
.110 .080 .060 .040
