Higher Action on an Ibanez?

Ibanez instruments don't care what action they have as long as it isn't so high as to pull notes sharp when fretting or two low that the pu's are quenching the strings. Just like any other brand.

Zombie thread alert! In my experience with every Ibanez bass I've owned (Multiple SR300s, SR370, SR400QM, SR405QM, SR2EX1, SR500 and SR600), I could never get the action as low as a P or J bass. I've even played premium and prestige SRs in several music stores and have had the same experience. I like to have the neck straight and the action low. The Ibanez SR basses just can't do that without tons of fret buzz. Not sure why that is, but that's the reason I usually stick with P basses in live situations. I absolutely love the neck profile and tone on the SRs, but the inability to get low action out of these basses is a bummer.

Why do Ibanez basses "prefer" low action and would it harm anything if I were to try to raise the action? As I thought the setup depended on the player and not the instrument?
Basses don't prefer anything, players do. So if you prefer higher action, raise it. Your bass won't start to cry or get angry or refuse to play.
