How much scratch can a good tribute band make? I’ve seen some videos on YouTube of tribute acts playing to hundreds and even thousands of people. So I’m guessing some can actually make a living doing it.

There are a few out there making some serious coin. Tusk (Fleetwood Mac tribute) is one. Russian band Leonid & Friends is another. They do Chicago extremely well and they have been touring the states. There's a Prince tribute that's doing well. They're out there.

I saw a Rage Against the Machine tribute band about 20 years ago on a whim. They played at a small bar to like 20 people. Having seen the real deal before this group was every bit as good. I was floored. If I closed my eyes I couldn’t tell a difference. It was like getting an intimate concert from a massive band.
The only other tribute I’ve seen was around the same time period, I think they were called The Fab Four. Did songs from every Beatles era. They had a large crowd. Very entertaining.

Yes, I've heard good things about Rain over the years. They get good reviews!
I know a couple who say they get $7 to 10k.
Not sure I believe that but he always drops numbers like that for every unit he plays out with.
I know a few guys who want some of that but they will not be worth that anyway, so unlikely to pull any bluff there may be on the guy who promotes and plays this market.
I think $3k is easily achievable if you look the part and you only need to be half decent sounding. I know guys who get this and they are looked after ok.

There are several Grateful Dead ones that tour.I imagine the top tier ones do pretty well, but have no clue how well financially.

I’ve been to the Brit Floyd concert the last two years in a row - absolutely phenomenal!!!!!!!!!I would imagine Brit Floyd and The Australian Pink Floyd Show are making a pretty good living, and rightly so. I would recommend either of these highly should you get the chance.

The Fab Four apparently does well. I've seen them numerous times, very entertaining. They change costumes for each musical period of the Beatles.
Probably the Aussie pink floyd. They’re playing venues like the o2 in London fairly regularly.
Dark Star Orchestra has been touring pretty much non-stop since 1997 and play anywhere to 500 - 5000 people at a time.
Joe Russo's Almost Dead (JRAD) is another fan-favourite and attract similar numbers. I know a promoter who wanted to book them for a festival around 2018 and was quoted $75 000. Mind you, Dave Drewitz from Ween is on bass, and Joe played with Phil Lesh and Bob Weir in Furthur, so they're already 'names' that command a price.
