Double Bass Hille Playing A Ricci Carbon Bass

I tried out a carbon bass at Long & McQuade a few years ago when I needed a bass to replace mine while in the repair shop.
It did not have the low growl and deep punch I was looking for. I ended up with an inexpensive wood bass on rental that did the job nicely after a string change.
This Ricci solo bass as played by Thomas Hille certainly opens my ears to what can be accomplished by the right player. Ricci, in their words, are not looking to replace fine old wood instruments.
We know carbon fibre does experience fatigue, contradicting what Ricci says. I know muscle bound bicycle racers who replace their carbon bikes because the carbon gets fatigued with soft spots after a few years of hard use. Time will tell how bass carbon reacts over the years. Bass playing does seem gentle compared to what an airplane, race car or serious cyclist inflicts on carbon.
