Double Bass !? Hipshot makes a DB Xtender

Anyone tried one of these yet? I'm very curious. When dealing with changing string tension on the DB, I'm wondering how this thing will perform when it is brought back up to pitch. I like gadgets and being able to drop D without a fb extension...
I'll wait to bite for now.

Curious how the sound and resonance changes since the string isn't in direct contact with the tailpiece.
