Hiss with Genz Benz STM900 & pedalboard ?

Hi all,

I just got a Streamliner 900 and I like it.
It juices 2 Vanderkley cabs.

But as soon as I use my peadlboard I get a hiss - pretty noisy when I turn up the volume, even with no pedal engaged.
That was not happening before with my previous amp.

So I guess 2 questions here:
- Can it come from the head??? Has anyone experienced this with a STM?
- How can I check where it is coming from? I already unplugged all pedal on by one, then tried reduced the chain (I have 8 babies lined up). But hiss is still there. :bawl:

If you disconnect the pedalboard and the his goes away, what you are hearing is noise generated by the pedals themselves. Many of the pedals are not truely bypassed even if you think so. Often the worst offender is a compressor with a lot of gain reduction being used when playing. Try each pedal one by one and see which one(s) are the biggest noise generators.

Yes my STM also is dead silent without pedals even at high gain.

I have a CIOKS DC10.
Isolated outputs.
9 pedals plugged

I will try all of them alone and keep you posted.
I will also try using a power surged socket to see...

Weird thing is that I had no problem before with previous head.

Where are you located? What kind of power source are you using?

A couple of things:

If you don't hear it without the pedals, but hear it with the pedals, logic would dictate that the issue is in the pedals, and not the amp... Also, it's pretty near impossible to add that many pedals in a signal chain without picking up some noise...

Lastly, what was the previous amp you're referring to???

Ok, going one by one, I've identified the problem.

It's my Moogerfooger envelop filter.
As you may know the Moog is never bypassed.

And when I run all my other 8 pedals without the Moog it does not create the noise background at all. That shows power supply and pedals are good quality.

Pity because the Moog is a killer!

I think I will search similar post in the effect section to check how to take care of that baby.
Might be worth controlling it with a looper and my smart gate then.

Thanks for feedback (and nice to see involvement even from a GB engineer!!! The STM900 is great).

Excellent.

With the Moog, there may be a problem using an aftermarket power supply. Try it alone with the factory power supply (240 volt version) and see if that improves things.
