Hiss

I have an active bass. With most amps I encounter some hiss. This hiss is not associated with the tweeter. For the most part it can be EQ'd out. Lately, I have been using an Art Tubepac in front of power amp. With this setup the only EQ is on the bass itself. I am not complaining, but would like to know why a traditional amp hisses and the Art does not? The ART should reproduce the same frequencies (nothing to dufus or boost any single one.)

Are you saying no hiss when you use the ART? If that's the case it means there's high frequency filtering in it that doesn't go low enough in frequency to noticeably affect tone.

Instead of "none" I will say significantly less. There are no notch filters, etc. on the ART. It's not high end equipment, but I can't figure why it doesn't hiss as much.

There may not be any filters evident on the front panel controls, but they're somewhere in there. Non-adjustable, of course. Since it's not high end it could be it would create a lot of high-frequency noise if it wasn't low-pass filtered, and therefore it is.

What do you mean, a traditional amp? That's a pretty broad statement.

Some are noisier than others...
