Hissing Problems

Hey guys. Wondering if someone could point me in the right direction here. I play through a Peavey Tour 700 head. Great head, never had any issues with it. Recently, it's started this weird hissing sound. The bass I normally use is passive, but when I plug in an active bass, the hissing gets louder. The hissing reduces as I turn the highs down and completely goes away when I bypass the EQ so I think it's related to my preamp. I have seen a lot of people say that it's just the way treble works with EQ, but not in my case. The weird part is that when it's hissing, I still have the clarity from the treble. If I lift one end of the head and shake it around a bit (gently of course) the hissing stops, but my sound is a bit muddy. Then the hissing cuts in and out at random. Anyone have any experience with this problem?
