Hofner Ignition Strings

Hi guys,I have had a Hofner Ignition bass for a while, and sometime ago I decided to change strings to Pyramid Gold. When I was changing the A and D strings, it was almost impossible to get them to the correct pitch; I had to apply so much force that I was afraid I would damage the tuners. Eventually after a few days the D string broke, so I came back to stock roundwounds, and they act pretty normal. Should I buy Labella 39-96 this time (even if A and D strings are thicker than pyramids)? Try another set of pyramid gold? Or maybe there is another option? Thank you in advance.

I'd strongly suggest that you get a set of LaBella flats specifically made for Hofner basses. Other styles won't fit properly due to Hofner's small tuner holes and Hofner's small tailpiece openings. Their set # 760FHB2 is generally considered most satisfactory. They run 39 to 96 and sound and intone very well. They also won't put undue stress on your bass.

Just to quote myself from an earlier post. One other thing, the tuners on the Ignition model are fairly rubbish.
