Im about to buy my first guitar and I decided to go with the electric bass. I really like the look of the Ibanez Artcore and I have found a good deal one along with an even better deal on an SR300. I like the hollowbody model the best for looks but since Im brand new I was wondering if this is the right choice? Any info would be a great help, I plan on buying tomorrow after work. Thanks in advance.

HollowBody okay for first Bass?

the artcores are good basses for the money! my old tutor uses one and it sounds fantastic, price is good, and there nice and light. go for it id say.
The Artcores are mostly semi-hollow and will be great for a beginner. Go for it!!

I would recommend playing a few and deciding which one you like best, which fits your hands/lap best. Looks are a factor in bass buying but shouldn't be the top reason. More or less a deciding factor between two that you do like.
If it is comfortable, if you can afford it, if it makes a sound when you plug it in and play it that is acceptable to your expecting ears, buy it. Any bass that fits the above description is going to be a good first bass.
Just make sure it works when you use a Gonkulator in-line to your amp.

My first bass was a semi-hollow Epiphone Viola (beatlebass)... If you like the feel and sound, go for it...
so wait... are you taking up guitar or bass?
if you are planning on playing the guitar then i wouldn't recommend getting a bass. while looking similar they are different instruments with a different sound. it would be like deciding to play flute and buying a saxophone.
but if you intend to learn to play the bass then go for it!
After I got back into playing, my first good bass was a semi-hollow DiPinto, and it served me well for a few years. The Artcores are excellent, so I think it would be a great first bass. The current version is 30.3" scale, and should be very easy to play.
I believe some earlier models had longer scale lengths (distance from nut to saddle), which can create awkward ergonomics when standing. The upper strap button is around the 15th fret, instead of the 12th, which creates a long reach to first position when standing. Many 34" scale hollow and semi-hollow basses have this issue, which really bugged me on my DiPinto, so watch for it if you're going this route. Some players don't mind at all, so YMMV, etc.

My Artcore sounded great at rehearsal last night. No reason not to get it - it's a good instrument for the money.

Absolutely! This is my first bass that was picked up for me in Germany back in the mid-60's for $119. I still have it and it sounds great.
Now that is a real nice looking bass.
