Double Bass Home made double bass stand

Hi, I am trying to get one of these but posting plus taxes makes it very expensive and I was wondering if any of you have any schematics of something similar so I can try to make one myself.

I have three of those stands, because they’re largely kid-proof. One came with a bass, and the others from haunting eBay obsessively until they became available heavily discounted from the normal price.

To answer the question, I’ve seen several homebrew attempts at that design but found them unsatisfactory.

If kids and dogs are not a factor, there are plans at thebassspa.net for a smaller and simpler DIY stand.

The OP is in Chile. I think shipping and import duties (taxes) are making buying one impractical.
The idea is pretty simple and shouldn't be hard to copy. I would think that having sufficient weight for stability along with fit and padding would be the things to watch for

Check out Jake's stand at The Bass Spa in Vancouver, B.C. He has the plans for making a stand on the website. I've made 2. The second one I customized. If you're interested I'll post pics....

I've discovered that the end pin cross piece, the one with the hole in it, never gets used. My endpin never goes down that far. If you keep your end pin extended I venture to say the stand doesn't need to have the cross piece in place to stabilize the bass in the stand. It's very stable as is. I know, I'm in earthquake country but don't feel the 2 basses I have are living dangerously in the stands as they are.

I thought about the height of the cross piece before I built them... I'm a short person and I don't extend the end pins that much (3 or 4 inches, maybe), so I put the cross piece higher than Jake's original design. I also chamfered the edges of the hole in the cross piece to make it easier to insert, but I find it takes me a little while to find the hole while setting the bass on the stand as the hole and end pin are hidden from view...

OK, so my cross pieces are still there, they just never get used. If there's a jarring or earth movement great enough to cause the bass to tip, the cross piece isn't going to save anything. Maybe Jake can enlighten us on the function of the cross piece. On his website Jake calls it an end pin holder.
