Above is the first video of a new YouTube series I'm working on. Posting this because I think I've been having good success with using the troll ribbon mic for the fingerboard and AKGC414 for the body at home. I think I actually prefer the Troll over other very expensive ribbon mic's I've used in studios over the years. At one studio session I was discussing what I would like to do with the bass because of the success I felt I was having at home, and in the conversation he mentioned, "you really shouldn't need to spend a lot of money on a ribbon", if it works it should work kind of attitude. I read the Todd Whitelock interview and just went with the mic placements he uses in the studio. The troll was the only mic I had so I tried it before buying/renting another ribbon.

Don't take this the wrong way... this isn't hey check this out I sound like CM....I'm not delusional lol. But I feel like I'm getting a decent sound without too much going on. I actually might a/b this setup with a cheaper option than the 414, 421 maybe? Just focus on the placement and see if it's just as good.
