Homemade Bass Synthesizer

It's not what you're used to see in this forum, but it's wooden and it's bass, so why not?

That's pretty cool. The title said "synthesizer" but it isn't what I was expecting. It's actually not really synthesizing anything, just using an optical pickup on a real, albeit unconventional, floating "string".

A little bit like a Fender Rhodes (tuning fork electric piano), albeit with an optical rather than magnetic pichup.
