I have a GK Backline 250 head with a Carvin 15" speaker (PS15) which is in a DIY cabinet. It has always worked fine since I have owned it (bought it used 6 months ago), until I took it to practice with my band for the first time and BUZZKILL, it doesn't work. It can play at very low volume but as soon as I either turn the volume up or pluck a string hard the "Power Protect" led light comes on and temporarily shuts down the amp. Does anyone have any idea why this is happening? The head is 125 watts @ 8 ohms and the cab is 400 watts @ 8 ohms so it's not overpowering the speaker but seems to be shutting down for some reason. I have one theory that I don't know if it is plausible. Could it possibly be that the speaker wire that attaches to the speaker where it is soldered is not a great connection and that might be causing the amp to shut down because it thinks it is blowing out the speaker and is trying to prevent damage? I will try to call Gallien Krueger, but I thought I would pose the question here since there seem to be a lot of knowledgable people on here who may be able to help. Thanks.
