Just learned that Horace Silver passed this morning at age 85. My trio usually opens gigs with "Song For My Father" and frequently dip into the HS catalog.

Thanks for a lifetime of great music, sir.

1st heard him from the Blue Note Miles Davis vol. 1 (1952 - '54). I found his style so entertaining and original that I bought one of his albums (also on Blue Note) shortly thereafter. A great player; another one of the old guard's left the scene leaving a great legacy behind.
