Bass equipment was always a good 10-15 years behind guitar equipment until the 70's. There were great guitar amps in the late 40's and 50's, but bass amps always sucked until 1961 and the B-15. Then they were just way underpowered for the ever increasing venue sizes. Coming up in the mid-70's, I thought we bass players had it pretty good over the previous generation, but compared to now, we might as well had come up in the stone age. To run a 1000w rig required so many speaker boxes that they took up half the stage (and I knew a couple guys who did). Now you can run 1000w in a 410.I see your point and also agree that it's very interesting that they were able to get by with such rudimentary equipment.![]()
