How can I run my Amp's preamp into a DI box?

I have an Orange Crush 100 watt combo amp and I don't like the XLR output on it at all for live use. It's noisy even with the ground switch enabled. There is a headphone out but obviously that defeats the speaker. I'd like to run the Amp's preamp into my Radial J48, could this be achieved by going out of my amp's effect loop or is that signal usually unaffected?

If it's noisy.. have you tried changing XLR cables?
As far as effect loop is concerned, some amps expect a return and kill the power amp if you only use the SEND side.. TRY IT !! :)

that's actually quite rare.

most amps let you use the fx send to do whatever you want; it's the fx return that necessarily disconnects the preamp, so you just get the power section.
Both my bass amps (and 2 of my 3 guitar amps) kill the feed to the power side with a 1/4" jack in the SEND and nothing in the RETURN.
