How could anyone not like Victor Wooten?

As I said earlier, there's no obligation for anyone to like anything. That's fine. Of course, an actual critique of what's so terrible about the songs might explain what you're thinking.

But I didn't post them to say, "You have to like this." I posted them because nearly all the anti-Wooten people harp on the kinds of chops-fest solos of his that are all over youtube, as though that were all he did. The point I was making is that he does other styles of playing as well.

I never understood this to be a "You have to like this" kind of thread or he posting of the songs as a "you have to like this " kind of thing and am quite happy to explain what I find so terrible about them.
First ; to me it sounds dated.
Secondly; It has a distinct cheesy sickly sweet vibe to it.
Thirdly ; I have heard this a thousand times before and didn't enjoy it even the first time around.
Fourth ; This to me is sooo much less fun than anything on 'what did he say' ...that I really feel 'what's the point of this'- there is nothing at all there for me.
These days I ask not "how did he do this" but "why did he, or she do a certain thing";
Here I don't hear anything that I would ask either question about. It just doesn't grab my interest.Neither does the tone of the instrument or the mix/production.
The songs too ...weak, simple and really boring (not the 'imaginative and genius' simple but that terrible shower gel ad music simple).
Serves all the bad cliche`s.

To me there is for these reasons( I am sure I could come up with more if I thought more about this , which I don't really want to do)nothing here at all , to like.

I hope this makes at least a little sense :).

Vic does do a little slappity-bappity, but shows off his ensemble chops too!

I really enjoyed most of the playing/music on this video. Unfortunately, it’s kind of a ‘highlights of the concert’ type of thing. I wish Korg would release the full video. In fact, I recently email them requesting this and received a ‘sorry, but no’ response. If you like it, why not email them too? Maybe if enough people do so, they’ll take it a bit more seriously.

I don't know of any musician with a long career who didn't put out material that fell short f his or her best work. I love Marcus Miller, but his earliest solo material was fairly weak pop because he was seeking to be pop singer who played bass, and he was trying to fit his Fender into the synth bass wave that was so big in the 1980s. Stanley Clarke spent ten years making really crappy pop records after Schools Days blew up because he was trying to recapture the magic of that CD.

Watching "Victors Jam" on the tube as I write this. Can't say Ive ever watched him before, he's fast that's for sure. Triplets all over the place. I reckon his slap is faster and more musical than Mark King but I struggle to listen to anyone with that thin hi fi tone, Marcus Miller and King included.
It's not for me at all but I've no problem with those who think it's the biz.
