How did we get to this point....

I personally LOVE riding in the pocket with my 4 or 5 strings... I save my licks and flashy stuff for practice at home or around friends... the music I play requires a pretty deep tight pocket.. and i guess I am happy and content to keep a throbbing, driving rythym.
I think it really depends on the music you are playing ... just throwing bass licks in to be heard is usually a sign of an inexprienced bottom feeder.
NOTHING shakes the room like a nice tight rythym.. the crowd BEGS for more every single time.
