how do all those songs stay in your head?

hey justin,

i know about all your regular gigs, like beck and ima, but this question is for those quick live shows you're asked to do like the chicks and gnarls. how do you learn all those songs in such a short time frame? and do those artists provide charts and such, or do you simply listen to their recordings? and is there a routine you follow to make sure those songs 'stick' so you can forget about them and just feel 'em?

thanks much...

You know what's funny? The more I learn, the more I remember! It's the inverse effect. Goes to show you that you are not "a brain", you are an entity which POSSESSES a brain. And that brain is meant to do your bidding. So my brain actually thrives on more and more musical content!

So, with this experience, I seem to learn more quickly and intuitively all the time. No bragging, just telling it how it is.

Artists do not provide charts, no. Usually I write 'em out after one or two listens. No particular routine otherwise, no.

Best,
JMJ
