How do I convert this mp3 file?!?! It's killing me!!!!!!! heeeelllp

I have an mp3 cd right now: I want to put it on itunes, obviously to go onto my ipod.

If I have itunes open when I put the cd in, nothing happens. When I put it in regaurdless it gives me my options of what I want to do. I've saved it to folders, still a no go with itunes

Right now I can only play it on windows media player. How do i convert this cd to a format itunes will recognize?

Help!!!!!!!

Or replace the iPOD with a Creative mp3 player and avoid all the headaches.

iPOD = iTRAP IMO.

Since this is an MP3 CD (and not a standard "music" cd), when you put the CD in, can you see it through Explorer (or Finder, you don't mention what OS you're using)? If so, all you should have to do is drag the individual .mp3 files from the mounted CD to iTunes.

Does this not work? If you double click on one of the .mp3 files (assuming the CD mounts properly) what happens?

Yes I'm using Explorer, and I can see the files there. I'm at work now so I couldn't tell you for sure, but I think when I double clicked them they just showed properties...doing me no good. I haven't tried the process the first poster said though, so I'll try that when I get home and let you know.

(and by the way, the "it's a trap" still makes me laugh every time :smug:)

Alright this is officialy ridiculous. No media player programs on my computer will even recognize the cd as audio.

When I pop it in itunes does absolutely nothing. I tried the steps ape said on the first post, and that didn't effect it, (thanks anyway though.)

All that happens is I get an option menu, and the only thing that lets me do anything is to play it with windows media player. When I got there, I tried to rip it, and it again wouldn't even recognize the cd, saying to insert a disk.

So should I give up and get the cd remade as an audio disk? It's getting reeaaaallll annoying :help:

Just to check...

They *are* .MP3 files and not .WMA files? If its .WMA files they won't play on the iPod directly - you'll need to convert them to MP3 or AAC when you import then into iTunes. If they are protected .WMA files bought via an online shop then the best way forward is to burn them to CD as *audio* and then "import" into iTunes (I have a CD-RW knocking around for this purpose).

If they are .MP3 files you should be able to *add* them to iTunes ("add files to library" rather than "import"). If this doesn't work, try dragging and dropping from Explorer into iTunes. You can check whether they are protected or not by right clicking on the Explorer header when in Details view or by right clicking on the header in Windows Media Player and looking for the "Protected" field.

If this doesn't work, all I can suggest is start back at square one with an audio CD and reimport.

I don't understand why iPods or iTunes are a trap. I "back up" my iTunes store purchases (or protected MP3s from any other online site) by burning to an audio CD and ripping back at a high quality. OK so it's audio - digital (at the store) and digital - audio - digital (at home). But that gets around the DRM protection and means that I can use the purchased MP3s in things like Traktor DJ software or Ableton Live.
