How do I get this tone (with fingers)

To me this sounds like a P-bass (or neck pickup of a Jazz bass) with flats, tone all the way up, and played with a pick.

Listen to the percussive attack around the 2:00 minute mark. Really does sound like a pick, no? Sadly my pick technique sucks, esp. with 16th notes.

I’ve tried getting there with very hard finger attacks, lots of EQ tweaking, a P bass, a StingRay, but I can’t seem to get that crisp snap.

Boost upper mids. Use an amp that doesn’t attenuate the high frequencies severely.

And cut some low Bass. That’s not a very bassy tone to my ear.

The bass and Guitar-type-instrument are bouncing between doing their own lines and doubling the same line. When they play different lines i can hear the bass without attack, while that attack follows the other line.

I agree with dfp's comment about adjusting your EQ. Additionally, try to do some Rocco Prestia-esque muting with your left hand to really increase the percussive sound of your plucking.

I think you’re thinking that attack is coming from the bass when I feel like it’s coming from a clean guitar. The bass itself sounds like a p bass player with fingers. Now that Rich attack tone I get with my Rickenbacker pretty well.

So the song is in Hindi I think

The only thing I’d recommend is a jazz bass with pressure wounds or flatwounds like chromes as they are brighter and than use a pick

Here’s a clip of my dad playing with some guys he got together for a multi cultural event locally . I would have been 11 before I started playing bass but
This event takes different cultures and whatever the background they host a night at community center or school or whatever and during the night they teach you about the culture and about themselves and shows some traditions and different arts
