How do I improve my picking technique?

I'm in a technical metal band (ÆNIMAL!MOTHER - Lowell, Massachusetts), and I've recently started playing with a pick. I can play the shred parts easier, and the bass stands out more and sounds sharper. So, a pick it is.

Anyone have any tips for metal playing with a pick?

Try the small red Dunlop Jazz III's. I only have about 3mm of the pick tip exposed, and it allows a solid attack without allowing a large amount of pick material to get below the string level, allowing fast movement of the pick. (disclaimer: I play the exact way on guitar for fast metal stuff.)
