How do I play from THIS sheet music?!

Seems to me that's the easiest form of "sheet music" to play from!

You know that when it says G/B that means the chord is a G, but the bass plays a B, so you don't even have to figure that out, right?

Just know one octave somewhere on your bass, by letter, and you're good to go.

At that point you'll be playing roots - given in the music - and to get to add all the fun stuff. I admit this kind of thing is a tad boring to receive and practice, but it's easy to work with, very open-ended.

I'm trying to work out whether you're either being serious or winding me up for my love of slap-bass.

Just Kidding, of course.

I play Amazing Grace pretty straight if we are doing the hymn version or close to it. I try to think "What would the Organ pedal be playing"

It can get fun when we put a more contemporary spin on the tune, but even then, I don't overplay. I just try to lay down a solid foundation for the team.

Seems to me, most often less is more.

"I never feel bad about a note I didn't play, but there have been a few that I played that I wish I could have called back"

You better be joking...I got told off for slapping during 'What A Faithful God' at church. I sounded pretty good but it was a slow song and so slapping wasn't the best idea.

I really need to revise my scales now....
