This amazing drummer I played with told me the pocket was so spot on he felt like his bass drum was playing the bass notes.
A simple one when playing guitar there was this guitarist at these jams we did. He was brilliant the top dogs there were just pups next to him. I played guitar for a jam he was watching, it was a blues and it was just one of those jams were you just get absorbed into the music and it just flows, you almost feel out of body. People walking by were going up to the studio I have never played like that and not to mention was intimidated by this beast of a guitarist being there. After a long soulful jam the guitarist who everyone there admired came up to me and said that sounded great man!
Simple I never heard him compliment any other guitarist there. He was a nice guy and don't think he did it to be mean I just think the others playing didn't really stand out to him. Which those other guitarist were really good too he was just on another level, aside from chops his playing oozed emotion and velocity.
At one gig a great compliment I got was a big house party a guy gave me a signal to turn up. On the break he said he wanted to hear my bass because it sounded really intricate. Anytime anywhere someone ways turn up the bass it's a victory for all of us bass players.
