How do you adjust your string spacing on a vintage Fender bridge?

I have found that 20mm spacing at the bridge aligns the strings with the poles of the pickups on Jazz basses better than 19mm spacing.

I just center my strings on their respective pole pieces when i put that style bridge on one of my J basses.

I just bring the strings to tension, letting the strings fall where they may, and then move the E and G string one groove towards the outside of the bridge to keep the saddles pressed against one another.

I got threaded saddle bridges so I could adjust the string spacing, but have never measured it.
I just set them where it feels "right", which can vary with different factors.

There's no need to bring ink and paper into this.
