I run my EQ mostly flat all the way across, it's a GK 2-10. I play a Madeira, made by Guild in the eaarly 70s, and it's got a pair of Humbuckers one at the neck one at the bridge, so I can get almost any tone I want by adjusting my bass. Neck is pretty bright, bridge is more boomy. I can throw the switch and adjust the pups volume a little either way and make it scream or growl. I run nylons too so that helps.
Sorry, old thread.
I'm using a maple neck P bass with a Markbass head and run my eq's pretty much at noon unless I need to adjust for the room. VLE and VPF are usually both off unless I add a touch of VLE when using new strings, or VPF depending on the room again but then not much.
I recently got a MXR Bass Octave Deluxe and am struggling to dial in the mid boost. Factory preset of 9 db at 400hz sounds a bit boxy. Moving to 850hz boost gets rid of that boxy sound and cuts through but doesn't have the same punch. I haven't tried with a large PA yet but which frequency would work best do you think?
