I went and looked at the head today. Very good condition. By markings and switches etc, it is between 1975-1979. He couldn't remember how long he had it. (This guys place was an homage to vintage music, in an abandoned church, there was all kinds of cool stuff in there). The amp had a consistent hum when turned on and was not altered by using the hum control in the back. That said, I played it for about an hour through a Hartke 410 and 115. I really liked it.
When I went to negotiate, and said it would need to be recapped and all that, he said, "You just want the head?" Turns out he wanted $800 for the head as well as TWO V4 4x12 cabs of the same year as the head, in good condition. I know the cabs are for guitar but it sure seemed like a deal.
Plus I think I was all woozy from the sound of the amp. Just so cool. So, I got an amp and a full stack for $800, albeit for a more guitar set up.
I'll probably end up selling the cabs, but right now my basement is feeling the warm tube vibe.
