Imagine how it was for us old folks who never had the internet and went through years of trial and error, just to find the right gear. Be patient!
Im not rich, and im a dufus when it comes to money. Thank god my wife has brains for that kind of thing. I make decent wages, and bought a lot a crap in my time, swords, computer crap, basses, guitars, etc.
Now that I am focused somewhat I save for what I want instead of running out and getting everything on a whim.
THAT allows me to save $$ for my Bass and equipment. If you have GAS take a mylox!
AND it keeps the wife from whipping out the frying pan.

Go and live on the other sideof the planet to do a vastly overpaid and underworked job. That's right-become an English teacher in Taiwan/China/Korea for a couple of years.

).I have cool stuff and I'm 16. I work a full time job during the summer and put that money right into the bank. Once I think I want something, I go to my bass teacher and talk about it. If it turns out that what I want to buy will be a good buy, I'll take it used. If I cannot find something used, I wait until I can! It's all about buying smart.
My bass is a Lakland 44-02. Recently, I had the rosewood/maple neck replaced by a maple/maple neck. I bought the bass 3 hours used and in perfect condition. In total, I have spent $750 on a bass that's good enough to take me wherever I want to go. I got it off TB.
I bought my Ampeg 4x10 for $300. I bought it from the GC with the casing busted up and two feet and a wheel missing. The speakers were in perfect condition.
In total, I saved more than I should have spent.
