Bassist for Marty O'Reilly's Old Soul Orchestra has a great stage presence. Saw them play at Burning Man. He was all over the stage, standing next to the drummer behind the drums, sitting cross legged on the stage, bodying up right behind the fiddle player during a fiddle solo, grinning and practically resting his chin on the guys shoulder. Got the fiddle player laughing and it probably messed with his solo a little bit but no one cared because it was great stage presence. Even played a song or two laying down flat on his back. Got a feeling this last one works better on an elevated stage where everyone can still see you though. No good just disappearing from view.
Smile, laugh, move around the stage, if you have a mic engage with the audience between songs. Wander into the audience a bit. In one of my bands, when I get really fired up sometimes I smash the drummer's crash cymbal with my headstock. That's a great one, but probably isn't for most people or most situations! That drummer and I have a special relationship.
