The exact same as any other two pup bass. Setting up pups adjustments so cruising voice is both pups full. Then rolling off either neck or bridge pup some for main alternate voices. Only rarely soloing either pup. Yes it boggles my mind that theres people who've never experimented with various pup blending anytime they have a two pup bass or guitar.

How do you play your Jazz bass?

Almost always with the bridge PU on 100% and the neck PU on 90-95%. Sounds killer...
I read that slowly rolling the neck PU off a bit until you hear the tone change a bit gives a great tone... It does.
Also, unless I am playing Rush or Yes, I keep the tone at 20-40%. 100% for the Squier or Geddy sound.
Lastly, if I am to lazy to switch to a Precision, I turn the tone on a Jazz to 0%, the neck PU to 100% and the bridge PU to 0%.

On all my Jazz it depends on the song but, typically:
Passive
Neck= 100%
Bridge= 80%
Tone= 50%
Active
Neck= 75%
Bridge= 75%
Low Mid= 50%
High Mid- 60 - 70%
Tone= 50-60%
But as stated, this will change depending on the song.

All 3 knobs maxed, smiley face on my 9 band eq, then on the rotary controls add alittle more mids and its perfect for me.
My old Fender Jazz was mostly at 90% neck, 100% bridge, and then I rolled the tone towards more treble as the strings wore out.
I also had a Lakland DJ with Aeros that I really liked how it sounded with the neck at 100%, bridge at 0%, and tone at about 80%.

Some songs I like both pickups full on, with the tone up about 90%. I usually use that setting for the dropped tuned heavy songs.
For a different sound, I roll off the bridge pickup about half or three quarters, and depending on how much thump the song needs, adjust the tone. This gives it a kind of P bass burp.

Neck at 100%, bridge bounces up and down from 50-100, depending on the song, tone never drops below 75%
First off, I play it with 2 hands (thumbs and fingers). Secondly, I play with neck pup 100%, Bridge pup 80% and the tone about 1/2 way up. Sometimes I play with both pups at 100% and the tone 1/2 way up.

This is what I do too. You get a bright punchy tone for rock by having the bridge pickup at 100% and just backing off the neck pickup about 10-20% and playing close to the bridge. For more bluesy stuff, just the opposite. I turn the neck pickup to 100% and roll back the bridge pickup slightly to give it more low-end fatter sound.

I'm surprised by the number of people who have their tone rolled back so low.
With my geddy, (and any other jazz ive played ; ) ) the tone seemed way too...hmm..dark?/muffly/ whats the word?
However..on my rigs normal settings I avoid super ear piercing highs..maybe thats why.
Anywat, it was just strange to me, but clearly it is common.

On one hand I love making litlle adjustments and hear all those crazy J nuances
On the other I hate making little adjustments and say to myself: "next time bring the P-bass and forget about knobs & nuances"
