How do you set volume when playing several basses live ?

hmmm... not sure where the 'tone sucking' comment on the BassBone comes from. Mine doesn't exhibit that either live or when tracking. I find it to be a really useful device.

When I first bought mine I used it to gain balance between a passive P or J and a Dark Star P. Mostly these days I've used it as my live DI and to get a second EQ setting while switching between an active bass, but one that does not increase the output level and a passive bass. That and for the other nifty features it provides.

In my kit - the BB, a Korg DT01 and Compulator always make the trip.

I assume the reason you want to use multiple basses is because you want to hear the distinct sound of each instrument. So for a start, I set my amp pretty flat so it doesn't color the sound of the instrument and then I take the quietest bass and run it wide open with the amp set to give it plenty of headroom. Then you take the next loudest and back it off until they're even and so on down the line. Very simple, and doesn't cost me a dime.

If you're fooling around with tone knobs on the amp, why bother with multiple basses, just change your sound on the amp.

I`ll surely have to switch between different basses, for example, a Zon Sonus (active, 5 strings) and a MIA Jazz (passive, 4 strings). I`m not concerned about the tone, since I want to keep the distinctive voice from each bass.

The point I was trying to explain, is that the output difference is quite significant and I`m looking for a fast, reliable way to even the onstage volume when switching basses.

Thanks Dan, never thought how useful it was :)

Do you adjust the volume when the song starts or do you already know the output difference between basses ?

I've learned where I need to set the volume to get approximatly the same level out of the two or three basses ( I also have an ABY box). The other variable is which input (active vs. passive) I use.
